January 2010: "Light a Fire... For the Love of God"

Malachi

Our theme @ MBC this year is centered on Revival. Church wide revival is nothing more than personal revival spreading from individual to individual. It is lighting a fire in our church family. It is becoming serious about our mission and about people who do not know our Savior. We are calling the theme “Light a fire.” We want to light a fire in our families, our facility, our community, and our own hearts. We begin the year by studying together the book of Malachi, the last book in the Old Testament Canon. It was written by a prophet of God who was grieved and crushed that God’s people were ignoring and even disparaging the love of God. We believe Malachi’s ministry was right before Nehemiah’s campaign to return to rebuild the wall. His ministry would have followed Ezra’s own ministry of rebuilding the temple. Malachi observed the people of God and sensed they all needed a revival. His book is a challenge to them to set the stage for God to revive them as His people. Join us for a blue—print for revival in our own church family. But be careful. You may find yourself convicted and humbled. We want God to light a fire for the love of God!

February 2010 Stewardship Series: "CHOICES"

Choices

Our stewardship srs. this year takes us into Paul's New Testament letter to the Philippians. We are going to discover what "finances in Philippi" look like in this joyful, yet persecuted, church. It was an unlikely church to have any financial impact for the kingdom of God and yet, because of some Godly choices they made, their influence is still being felt today. We will be surprised and encouraged as we spend some time with this small New Testament community of believers. In these tough economic times, we all need some financial encouragement and insight on how to make wise choices when it comes to our resources.

Join us for a journey together called "Choices" where we will uncover some timeless principles about life, stewardship, and the choices necessary to move forward for God. Get ready to be encouraged!

Spring 2010: "When Fire Comes to the Church"

When Fire Comes to the Church

Sometimes the only news you hear about a church is when something tragic happens to it. Some churches become known for misuse of funds or child abuse or the practice of pornography among its members or leadership. Sometimes a church may literally burn down and it makes the news. Rarely do the good things churches do show up on the evening news. But everything a church does or does not do is flashed across God’s radar screen. God sees it all. We are going to learn that only Christ has the right to justify why any church should exist. Only Christ has the power to enable that church to carry out its God given mission.

When John began to write the book of Revelation he introduces us to the post resurrection Christ and his “eyes as a flame of fire.” In the first three chapters there is a revelation of Christ’s evaluation and challenge to his church. It is like “fire” comes to the church. These words are fiery and unbending because they state in no uncertain terms what Christ requires of his church. They also promise incredible victory to the church!

Now the rest of the book of revelation concerns future events which serve the effect of motivating the church to comply to these fiery words of Christ. We are going to walk through the first three chapters of Revelation together and pray that fire once again comes to the church so that we emerge clean, warm, and passionate about fulfilling the mission the Savior has given us. If we respond to his “fire”, we experience the greatest of encouragements. If we refuse to respond, Christ promises to “fire” that church in no uncertain terms. [Remember the reality show were Donald Trump fires his apprentices? You think that is traumatic?] Nothing can compare with the trauma of God removing the candlestick of a church!

On the other hand, nothing can compare with being a winning church for the “great cause of God” in this world!

Join us as we visit the churches where “fire fell.” You will be challenged. You will be helped. You will be encouraged!

Summer-Fall 2010: Unbelievable?...Believe it!

Unbelievable

Over the summer we are going to examine a series of unbelievable excerpts from the book of Genesis. Skepticism reigns in our world, especially when it comes to the realm of faith. Skepticism is defined as the doubt about the truth of something. It is the disbelief in any claims about ultimate knowledge. It is basically a disposition toward unbelief either in general or toward a particular object. The church is revived when its faith is unshakable in the works of God that may seem incredible or unbelievable to men. The first book of the Bible plunges us into a series of unbelievable events from the human perspective. Yet these very events tell us the story of how we got where we are today and why things are in such a mess. These events also reveal the God of the impossible who rescues the "too far gone." Join us as we excerpt each week an unbelievable event…and leave with the conviction that we had better believe it!

Winter 2010- RE-Build

RE-build

God always takes the initiative. No one, after falling into a sinful experience, would ever come back to Christ unless God brought him back. This is indicated so clearly in the case of these Israelites. When they had gone into Babylon, they became a different kind of people.  Their vocations changed, their life-style changed, their attitudes changed, and their perspective of God and His word changed. When God, under Ezra & Nehemiah’s leadership brought over 50,000 of them back to Jerusalem it appears that the purpose was to rebuild the city and the temple. However, as we study these books carefully we clearly see that God’s priority was the rebuilding of their lives into genuine people of God. God capturing a life in Christ involves a total rebuilding of that life.  How God goes about it and what we must learn in order to experience a life rebuilt is the underlying theme in the book of Ezra.  We are calling our series “RE-build.”  Join us to learn how God rebuilds lives for His glory!  He wants to rebuild yours and that is a good thing.
