“Where does it all go?” Our stewardship series for 2009 @ MBC answers this proverbial question that all of us tend to ask as we look back over the use of all our resources. We can ask this question regarding our time, our money, even our daily bread [especially if you are feeding teen agers]. As believers we need to know the answer to that question for God does hold us accountable for all the gifts He has given to us. Our series will take us over all the Sunday’s in February and will take us through Chapters 7-14 of the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy. God laid down some stewardship challenges for the new generation of Israelites that were preparing to enter the new land…the land of promise. Those challenges are just as significant for us as they were for that generation. Our small groups will also take this stewardship journey thru the next four weeks. If there was ever a time in our country, in our church, and in our own individual lives where we need clear direction, it is today. When you trek off through the woods or are trying to wend your way down unfamiliar roads a compass is an invaluable tool. But in order for a compass to be calibrated correctly to give you the true direction of your travel, it has to be set to true north. We begin a study of the New Testament letter of Colossians that will provide us with compass points for our journey. In this epistle we discover Christ to be the TRUE NORTH reading for our life compass. When Christ is in our lives and central in our lives, we have the compass heading correctly calibrated. Then we can make right decisions and receive quiet assurance about all the twists and turns life presents to a 21st century traveler. Join us for a class in “right directions” for all of life’s contingencies.

This word is a Latin word from where we get the word secular and has the idea that tomorrow will be just like today. Everything in life is about today… People only think in terms of the now…the present…the visible…and the feel-able. The Thessalonians assumed the promised future had already happened in their day, ie the now. But in both of these books [I & II Thess]there is a “hope” problem that leaves heaven looking suspiciously like this life. The book of II Thessalonians is sort of a post-it note for the future. So the bottom line comes down to this: It is the “now versus the not yet.” As the Apostle Paul penned these words his aim was to lift us out of the “just today” mentality. Living for just today and being preoccupied with only “the now” blinds us to the reality of what’s coming next. We must understand what God has coming next on the prophetic screen. God is texting us some incredible insights about where the future road goes. Get your spiritual i-pod out and listen to God’s plan for what’s coming next.
